Capital Requirements

Capital Requirements refer to the statutory minimum capital that an independent asset manager must maintain at all times under FinIA. The requirements are designed to ensure that the institution can absorb short-term losses and be wound down in an orderly manner if necessary.

At a glance

01

Asset managers must hold own funds of at least 25 per cent of the fixed costs of the last annual accounts, up to a maximum of CHF 10 million (FINIG Art. 23 para. 2).

02

Own funds must be maintained at all times; any shortfall must be reported to the supervisory organisation without delay.

03

Eligible capital components include in particular paid-in capital and retained earnings; detailed requirements are set out in the FinIO.

Frequently asked questions

FinIA prescribes proportional capital adequacy; the specific amount depends on business volume and risk structure. Already during the Affiliation Audit, the Supervisory Organisation requires evidence that the minimum requirements are met and can be maintained on an ongoing basis.
